Cleaning Stair Rods

When cleaning our stair rods and carpet rods and stair clips, always take sensible precautions to protect your carpet or floor covering from damage and any moisture.

Lacquered metal carpet rods

Our metal stair rods such as the Country, Premier and Vision ranges, plus our Victorian Stair Clips, are supplied protected with a clear lacquer, as are the supplied brackets. This helps prevent them from tarnishing. Whether the stair carpet rods are made from solid metal or are hollow metal makes no difference to how you should look after them. If you decide to clean them, it is best to simply wipe them with a damp cloth from time to time. Do not use metal cleaning products as these will damage the lacquer and can cause tarnishing of the rods and could mark your carpet.

When freshening up the staircase, paintwork and surrounding area to the stair rods, it is best to apply any cleaning product direct to a cloth and then wipe the surface of the paintwork clean; if the cleaning fluid, water or detergent is sprayed onto the stair rods, this may cause surface speckling to the rods.

If you spill liquid by mistake on your stair rods, remove immediately with a damp cloth and then dry with a clean, dry cloth.

Wooden carpet rods

The Tudor wooden stair rods are stained and lacquered and simply require a wipe with a damp cloth. The finial ends and the brackets are made of metal and are lacquered – see Lacquered metal stair rods above for appropriate maintenance tips.
