Ramps

Ramps are a functional and smart solution to transition from one floorcovering to another, when both are at a different level or height to each other. A door threshold ramp will smoothly join the two, avoiding a trip hazard and covering up any ugly, cut edges.

Where to use ramps in the home

When having a new floorcovering fitted, you may find that the end result is higher than the original one. This is often the case where a tiled floor has been put down on a screed base in a bathroom or kitchen or sometimes even installed on top of the old tiled floor. Inevitably, this leaves a step where the new tiled floor meets the adjacent room, such as hall or landing, or floorcovering. Such steps can be a trip hazard and typically look ugly, exposing the edge of the cut floor tiles, which can easily crumble and chip over time. This is where door ramps can be a perfect option to not only solve the problem but enhance the look and finish of your new flooring.

Styles of ramps

We offer a choice for different situations. All are self-adhesive, which makes them easy to fit. When joining hard floorcoverings such as porcelain tiles, laminate or wood, you will first need to measure the height difference between the two floors and then choose from the Premier Two-Way Ramp (for height differences of 2-9mm) or the Premier Ramps (for height differences from 10-20mm). If you are joining carpets then the Easyshims are a handy way to raise the level of your floor so both are even with each other; they simply slip under the carpet around the doorway. Alternatively, the Compression Ramp provides a 5mm ramp height.

Multi purpose door thresholds

The Premier Posh and the Premier Cover Door Plate are an alternative option for when the difference between the two finished floor levels is 6mm or less. These door plates can be fitted at an angle and so create a gentle ramp from one room to another. FAQs

When should you use a door ramp?

A door ramp is ideal for when you are joining two floorcoverings together, in a doorway or across a room, and they are at a different level to each other. This means that you end up with an unwanted step between the two. It can occur for a number of reasons. One of the most common causes is the installation of underfloor heating in a tiled bathroom during home renovations, which significantly raises the level of the tiled floor. Most door thresholds are designed to be fitted flat and therefore are unsuitable for such a situation. However, the door ramp threshold provides a gradual slope from one level to the other, whilst neatly covering any gap and rough edges of the two floorcoverings. The sloping ramp avoids the risk of a trip hazard and looks smart. We offer a choice of ramps for different types of flooring, including hard floorcoverings, such as porcelain tiles, wood, stone LVT and carpet.

What is a ramp door bar made from?

The Premier Ramps are manufactured in solid brass and as such offer high quality and durability. Unlike cheap door thresholds, they do not easily dent nor scuff and withstand frequent foot traffic. They come in ten different metal finishes, including polished, antique and satin brass plus antique bronze, along with special finishes of pewter, black, satin and polished nickel, polished and brushed chrome.

What height of door ramp do I need?

The degree of slope, otherwise known as the height of the door ramp, needs to accurately match the difference in finished floor height between the two floorcoverings you are joining. For example, if you are joining a wooden hall floor to a tiled kitchen floor and there is a step up to the kitchen. Measure the vertical drop between the two and then choose a threshold ramp accordingly. The Premier 2 Way Ramps cater for height difference of 2-9mm, whilst the Premier Ramps are for larger level differences of 10-20mm.
